Does anybody, whose in college have to use it? I had to use it for signing up for classes. It's a system that some universities use to post class notes and assignments and it's unjaws friendly.

We used blackboard at university and i have to say that it was pritty accessible for the most part. The only thing that wasn't accessible was the message boards when we had to reply to something. Instead of an edit area i think there was a frame like in yahoo. Maybe each university designs their blackboard differently. Also my university was in England. Maybe in America or other countries things are different i don't know. I would suggest that you contact your university or college and let them know about accessibility. I don't know if they will do anything about it but you don't have anything to loose for trying.

I'm thinking of doing that. I also ran in to a lot of visual verifications and the edit boxes were not labeled.

I've seen blackboard systems in the states. Well ok, so I've seen it on one college campus. A friend of mine without net access asked me to check something for him on blackboard. Something that should have taken me maybe ten minutes at most, given it was an unfamiliar system, took upwards of 45 minutes. I will never use blackboard again, if I can help it. Accessibility concerns need to be addressed, but I don't know if it's something we take up with individual universities, or if someone administers all the blackboard systems across the country. Because, it sounds like European blackboard systems are better for visually impaired/blind students.

My college uses blackboard and I've had almost no problem with it. The message boards took a tad of getting used to but once you did they were perfectly useable.

lol yes it does and so does the website. Altho, I've finally figured out how to use it. The links list dialog is my best friend.

Does anyone know how to reply to a thread and also make a new thread. There seem to be no edit boxes and all of my english assignments have to be posted.

So far, my experience with it has been accessible, though a pain in the ass, and yes, the links list is a miracle worker.

Fortunately, I may get an opportunity to actually sit down, face to face with one of blackboard's programmers and try to get all the accessibility issues straightened out... I'll keep a note of what you guys bring up so that I can explain them to the programmer...maybe something will get done about it all.

I'm in high school, but we've had to use it before. I use window eyes, but it seems to work okay. You could talk to the administrators about an alternative way of accessing assignments, or maybe a different version of jaws....? I don't know.

the only thing I can't do is download the bloody files! and supernova is awful with it!

The problem is different modules at my university have different links to their support materials. This means you have to rememberwhich links are for which sections grrr.
Tip: use f3 or control+f - they're great if you can remember the titles. Not used the message boards yet. I think I'll mess about with window eyes.
